Sequoia Capital , a well known VC fund with a substantial track record in the Internet industry has invested in Kenshoo, Search Engine Marketing Innovators from Tel Aviv, Israel, and is now a partner in the company. The exact terms of the deal were not disclosed, however given the strategic investment, Sequoia’s market positioning and the synergy between parties, one should expect a major leap for Kenshoo and a much higher profile in the global marketplace.

ABestWeb review

July 2, 2007

Claiming to be the world’s largest – and best- affiliate forum with over 34,000 posts, ABestWeb offers a rather complex, yet absorbing, resource for those looking to make a few extra earnings on the side.

Affiliate marketing is notoriously complex, and there are a lot of areas to lend thought to. You could spend weeks researching Search Engine Optimization, only to be convinced by a new so-called expert that the real money is made in Pay Per Click advertising or link baiting. There is no one followed path which everybody sticks to, and as such, the forum layout of ABestWeb can be quite a confusing affair.

Upon landing on the homepage, you’ll quite rightly ask yourself “Where next?”

It should be made the global rule of web portals that the homepage is designed to enlighten – not confuse and bewilder!

Unfortunately, ABestWeb, for all of its members, tries to hammer home too many talking points on the first page. These are links to affiliate programs, and similar links to boards in the forum itself. What does this lead to? Well, this reviewer ended up resorting to reading the URL in the bottom left corner of his browser to determine whether a link was internal or external. Users should not have to check before clicking to know whether they’re going to be sent to genuine content.

The nature of the website is that it’s hard to determine between content headers, category items and third party banners. All this in the first page is hardly a good start, but somehow, ABestWeb manages to win you over when you actually set foot in the affiliation forums.

It would be hard to debate ABestWeb’s status as the most comprehensive of the affiliate forums on the web. You’ll find coverage of all the latest programmes, from Clickbank and Commission Junction to Amazon and specially selected third party affiliate merchants.

Each category has its own vBulletin sub-forum, and thankfully once you reach this point, things become a little more straightforward to navigate. Nearly all of the topics receive replies, and the expert advice is good. As a mark of this, it’s quite common to see topics where the number of views far out-weighs the number of replies. So obviously the problem was solved and many visitors have shared the solution via Google keywords!

It has to be said that ABestWeb is criminally unforgiving to new affiliate marketers. You have to have a pretty precise idea of what you’re looking for, given that the categories have no descriptions and go by service name. If you haven’t heard of the service, there’s a high likelihood that you’ll never get as far as the forum.

So in a way, ABestWeb is generally suited as a resource for those who know what they’re looking for. If you’re simply browsing from item to item, you’ll quickly end up lost. The information is good for those who know where to seek it, but don’t anticipate the friendliest browsing experience. ABestWeb would benefit greatly from a standard forum approach.
